Bali tips

As a family we’ve spent a lot of time in Bali, and for us Buchanan’s, it is almost a second home. We often get asked for tips of things to do when visiting Bali, so here they are.

Hope they help, and let us know if you have suggestions!

Stay

  • Taman Sari, Pemuteran: Pemuteran is right up in the north west of the Island and has beautiful diving. (Mum and Dad have a place there)
  • Villa’s run by our friends Joan, Jane, Peter and Carolyn – ask for more info if interested in an immersed experience
  • Puri Taman Sari in Mengwi – the same group as Taman Sari, but in the mountains

Do / See

  • A couple of days in Ubud up in the mountains. The main st (monkey forest rd) can be fun to shop along, although it gets a little touristy
  • Mountain bike down the mountains
  • Check out the temple on Lake Bratan in Bedugal – you can probably find some nice hiking by the lake there, or even higher up in Munduk which is just a little town
  • Diving – there is a big US wreck in Tulamben which is cool. Diving up near Menjangan/Pemuteran is awesome, but that’s quite a long way to go to the north coast
  • Go and watch a dance – I like the kecak or barong dance
  • Uluwatu – there is a famous temple on the cliffs on the bukit there that is beautiful – its also the most famous surf spot…watch out for the monkeys Jacs says….they tried to steal her sunnies from her face but she grabbed them back quickly!
  • A few days around Seminyak (a little further along past kuta and legian) which is where a lot of the cool nightlife is (eg Ku De Ta)
  • Waterbom Park – kind of fun 🙂
  • Keramas Beach (and the Komune Resort hotel)
  • Walk through some rice padis
  • Kuta – you’ve got to check it out, although super touristy these days, so do it as a day trip
  • Tanah Lot temple – cool temple out on a rock
  • Check out the volcano – gunung agung, and maybe the Temple Besakih
  • Monkey Forest in Ubud – only to walk through for an hour or two but cool nevertheless
  • Check out some of the nearby islands which can be a slower pace, such as Nusa Lembongan or the Gilis
  • Do a drive to the beautiful Jati Luhur
  • Pura Taman Ayun ( a water palace in Mengwi)
  • Go white water rafting
