We’ve just landed in LA and are so excited to finally be home again for the holidays. It has been quite a few years since I was last home for Christmas and having the Buchanans here will make it even more special!
Since we last updated the trusty old blog, we’ve had a few cameo appearances down unda from some of my best friends in the US. We’ve also handed over the keys to our Milsons Mansion and moved into the Buchanan abode for a couple months until “our tenants” (yes, we are currently LANDLORDS ;-)) move out at the end of January.
Before Caitlin, Sami and Alex came to visit, Ben and Jason surprised Sarah and I with a trip up the coast to Nelsons Bay. We spent the weekend exploring the small towns, checking out the incredible beaches and of course the food, wine and jazz festival that was on that weekend.
Shortly after that Caitlin came to visit for a week. After a slight mix up with airport pickup 😉 we headed out on the town to show Caitlin the Sydney sites, drinking holes, swanky restaurants and traditional pubs. We checked out Surry Hills, Bondi, Paddington, the Rocks, Mosman, Milsons Point and EVERYTHING else. Caitlin even made her way up to Palm Beach for a day in the Aussie sun! One night we went to a wine tasting and five course degustation (this was the night of Thanksgiving so the indulgence of course was completely justified, if not expected!) Caitlin’s final night was spent at the Shangri-la sipping cocktails overlooking the city followed by a trip to the Opera Bar to meet Ben and his workmates and to take in the sites of the city/harbour one last time. Caitlin – it was so lovely to have you here and all I have to say is ‘We built this city on California Roooollll’
Sami and Alex were the next to arrive! Alex actually spent his first few years here so we had fun checking out the apartments that his parents lived in, and even recreating photos that he’d starred in from over 24 years ago! After a few nights out, cocktails and sangria in the cross, the city, the rocks, Bondi, Paddington markets and all the other Sydney must dos they headed up north to Cairns. It was a ton of fun to have them visit and I think a highlight would definitely have to be a bit of karaoke at Mega Hole!!!
The fun didn’t completely stop after the visits, Christmas parties, lunches and BBQs were on the cards! My company party was 1950s theme so I dressed as Sandy from Grease. They had a seven man band which played all of my favourite ‘oldies’ so I was on the dance floor nearly the whole time! Ben’s was on the same night and featured cotton candy, poll dancers (don’t worry it was relatively PG apparently!) and magicians!
Somehow Ben managed to study for and take his GMAT (the entry exam for business schools) in between all of the festivities! Not only is he efficient (and ridiculously good looking 😉 but he is brilliant too – he scored 760 out of 800!
Now that we are in LA, we’re looking forward to spending Christmas with all of you, a pinch of retail therapy and of course SCUBA diving in Mexico.
…and don’t worry we won’t forget to write about it on the plane ride home!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS and ALL THE BEST IN THE NEW YEAR
