A weekend of magic and an engagement at the Jenolan Caves

So most of you probably know the good news by now, but Ben and I are engaged!

On Friday after work Ben and I drove up to the Jenolan Caves which are in the Blue Mountains. We’d planned a weekend of adventure caving, hiking and some time together away from cell phones, email and TV! We stayed in this incredible Victorian hotel called the Cave House.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early, as per usual 😉 We then went for a stroll around the grounds – up and down the various trails and checked out the amazing scenery. We went to the Orient Cave at 9:30 in the morning for a tour. It is a show cave which means they’ve lit it up with amazing lights to show off all the stalactites, stalagmites and crystals! It was absolutely magnificent and completely magical.

The magic continued after the tour. We packed a picnic and hiked a long the river until we found a beautiful sun drenched meadow by the river to eat lunch in. As we finished and were about to head back up to the Cave House, Ben said there was only last thing he needed to ask me. He took my face in his hands and gave me a big kiss and told me he would be honoured to spend the rest of his life with me. He kneeled down, opened the jewellery box to reveal the most incredible ring I’ve ever seen, and asked me to marry him! I was so overwhelmed, excited, speechless and totally surprised! I cried, smiled and jumped around the entire hike back. Ben just couldn’t believe that I’d said yes!

At 2PM we had our adventure cave tour which took us down into the depths of the cave, over and under rocks and through tiny little crevices and ‘s’ bends! It was sooo much fun! We absolutely loved it and can’t wait to do it again! Definitely take a look at the photos! We also met a really fun couple on the tour who joined us for a drink and dinner to celebrate. Since we had no cell phone reception and I was dying to tell everyone, it was great to have a fun couple to celebrate with.

We drove home this morning and stopped in Leura for a lovely celebratory breakfast on the way. We both have soccer games today so we’re going to that followed by a dinner and drinks with friends.

We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone and thank you all for the calls and kind words. We are really excited (My cheeks are so sore from smiling so much!)!

We’re not sure yet when we’ll get married, but we’re planning an engagement party as a first step! Can’t wait!
