We just got back from an awesome weekend in Shanghai…yep that’s right…we went to China just for the weekend 😉
We arrived in Shanghai on Friday morning. I had 8 hours in Singapore to shop which was great fun and was upgraded to business class on the first leg of my flight! I’d like to think it was because someone felt sorry for me that I was missing out on what I heard was a fabulous Thanksgiving at Aunt Rach’s! Anyway, after 8 hours of shopping, I met Ben back at the airport for our flight to Shanghai (we had to fly the first leg separately if you hadn’t got that already!)
When we arrived at the Hilton in Shanghai we were then upgraded to an executive room which came with use of the executive lounge, free cocktails and canapes every night and a huge brekkie buffet that Ben couldn’t resist every morning! The Hilton had gorgeous views of Shanghai’s incredible cityscape. We dropped our bags and hit the streets to walk around what is know as the French Concession area. We walked about 7kms before lunch and then headed over to the financial district where we walked even more. After the overnight flight and a busy day, we finished with a drink at the top of Shangrila overlooking the river and the Bund. Check out the view below.
The next day we were up bright and early to hit the gym before a day of sightseeing and lots of shopping. We literally walked around almost the entire city. There was so much to see and do, and lots of mileage to cover so we didn’t even stop for lunch – we just picked up a bit of street food – mystery meat and all 😉
Walking around the busy streets in Shanghai, we stood out like a sore thumb and the Chinese aren’t shy about asking for photos or showing you what they think of blondes 😉 We took a couple of photos of our fans…
Saturday night we hit the town. We started with a few drinks in the executive lounge followed by dinner at an amazing restaurant. The Soon Hok was beautiful – check out the photo. We then headed to a funky bar called Glamour at M on the Bund.
Sunday was our last day in Shanghai. We once again decided to walk the city so we could take in all the sights, the smells, the people, and get lots of exercise to work off all the salt and grease in the food 😉 We started with the Old Town which was probably a highlight for me because it was this little pocket of the old world surrounded by the skyscrapers of the new world.
After walking through the Old Town we headed back to the Bund, down East Nanjing Road (where all the good shopping is!) and all the way back to the hotel in the French Concession. It was an awesome last day in Shanghai! We then headed to the airport to catch our flight to Singapore, and then home to Sydney.
We had a lovely weekend in Shanghai – how could you not with all of the shopping 😉
