Hi there everyone! With less than a week to go until Christmas, we wanted to take the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.
It’s only been a few weeks since our last post, but there is still lots to update you on. I’m now on holiday having successfully completed my first semester – so I’m 25% done with my MBA which seems ridiculous. This semester has flown by. Since No-Shave November, we had the final cohort competition – the walkoff – where we all had to put together skits in the theme of Haasily Ever After. I was the Wizard of Haas in our Wizard of Oz skit, and we came second which meant that my cohort won overall for the semester which is pretty cool. The prize is a party bus to ride around town so we have to decide when to use that.
On December 8th, I volunteered at the GigaOm Net:Work Conference in the city. It was pretty cool as it was focused on the impacts of changing technologies on enterprises – cloud computing and the like. I got to meet alot of the speakers like the CEO Box.net, the Product Manager for Chrome for Business at Google and many more.
Then just a few days later, straight after my Accounting final, 16 of us went down to Palo Alto for a tour of the Facebook office which was cool to see – although unfortunately they are just moving office so now I’ll have to go again to see the new one in Menlo Park 🙂 It was fun to get a feel for Facebook HQ given what an impact it has on all of us! The next night it was then time for our end of semester party – a masquerade ball in the city which was great fun.
Monday morning I had my second and last final – Finance – after which 30 of us headed up to Lake Tahoe for a week of snowboarding. Unfortunately Jacs’ couldn’t come for the snowboarding because of work, but joined me on Saturday morning. The house we were staying at was really cool with 2 hot tubs, 2 bbq’s and lots of space. It was also less than a 5 minute drive from Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, the 2 resorts where my season pass works. Unfortunately however, there wasn’t much snow so only a few runs were open. We had a great time anyway boarding for a few hours a day, and then hanging out at the house in the hot tub or by the fire 🙂
Friday morning everyone headed back to Berkeley, but Shirley came to pick me up and take me over to their house in Crystal Bay, where Jacs and I would spend the weekend hanging out with John and Shirley. Saturday morning the three of us headed out to brunch at the Hyatt before Jacs arrived. We then went for a beautiful hike to the beach (there really wasn’t any snow!!) where we had a picnic in the sun. There happened to be someone there with their baby pet artic timberwolf, which was friendly and very cute!
After the picnic, it was time to go and find a christmas tree to cut down! After a bit of searching we found one that looked pretty good, so we cut it down and took it home in the back of the explorer – lucky we had a big car (check out the full photo album for some funny shots!). After getting the tree home it was time for a quick nap followed by a delicious Christmas dinner for the 4 of us of Dungeness Crab – yum yum – and of course some delicious wine 🙂
Sunday morning Jacs and I got up for a quick run by the lake, and then we all had some french toast … but then decided we needed some more exercise to walk it off, so we all headed out for another beautiful hike in the hills before Jacs and I got on our way back to Berkeley.
On Wednesday we’re heading down to LA to spend Christmas with the Fisher Family in Altadena which we can’t wait for. We’re then spending New Year’s with some friends at Mammoth Mountain for some snowboarding before heading back to the Bay Area. Fun times!
Let us know how you’re all going.
